Some are new and some are old, but all are excellent overall.

Presented in no particular order, the games I mentioned here are never timeless or ageless, not even one.

Let’s have a check!

1. Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI

Who doesn’t know or hear about Final Fantasy VI?

Well, FF VI is probably the best installment of the Final Fantasy series and one of the very first RPGs packed with an emotional wallop. Not many people imagine a video game can be pretty awesome until they play FF VI.

The incredible adventures of Terra and Celes as well as their battles against Kefka, a demonic clown, are unforgettable ‘til today. For sure, you will feel mesmerized with the game’s animation – the 16-bit graphics hit the right spot to your imagination.

Platforms: Super Nintendo, PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, iOS, and PC

2. Ni no Kuni

Ni no Kuni

Ni no Kuni is a RPG series developed by Level-5.

In the first games, players will follow the journey of Oliver, who needs to travel to another world to rescue his mother and face against the beckoning evil.

The series features plenty of magic elements that allow you to freely utilize magical abilities during gameplay. Also, you can have your very own familiar – a creature which can be tamed and brought to each battle.

In March 2018, Ni no Kuni 2 was released and soon has been considered as one of best PC games you must play. The sequel tells the story of King Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, whose throne was taken over. Players’ mission is to help the boy reclaim his kingdom.

Platforms: PlayStation, Nintendo DS, iOS, PC

3. Phantasy Star IV

Phantasy Star IV

Let’s travel back to the 90s – the time when Final Fantasy had become an incredible hit and JRPGs were omnipresent like MOBAs are currently. Sega, in the past, offered a high-quality sci-fi RPG action called Phantasy Star.

Even though many naysayers dismissed this Sega’s series and claimed it as such a bunch of knock-offs, it’s actually a sci-fi epic. Phantasy Star IV in particular is excellent and supreme.

Platforms: Sega Genesis, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

4. Suikoden II

Suikoden II

Suikoden II is the combination of Game of Thrones and Pokémon, but it is even much better. If you haven’t tried this RPG yet, then start playing it from today – totally worth your time.

The story of Suikoden II really brings me something very emotional which I hardly found in other video games. If you are looking for a game focusing on friendship and betrayal, then Suikoden II is a perfect option for you.

I recommend you to also taste the first Suikoden.

Platforms: PlayStation, PlayStation Classics

5. Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG

Nowadays, you can easily find a lot of RPGs about Mario the plumber of the Mushroom Kingdom; however, back then it’s hard to find out.

Luckily there was Super Mario RPG – the very first Mario game which I found having one of the best gameplay. Not to mention that this is the only RPG that in-game characters are equipped with weapons and Bowser can hurl Mario at the Koopa Troopas army.

The action scenes in the past were pretty much awesome.

Platforms: Super Nintendo, Wii Virtual Console

If you expect something new, then let’s find out which best upcoming games will be launched in October, 2018!
