Urgent manhunt underway after Pennsylvania amusement park shooting

Police have launched a manhunt for a gunman who shot three people at an amusement park.

On Saturday, September 24, two teenagers and a man were injured after “two shots were fired” at Kennywood Amusement Park in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

A “search in progress” is currently underway to locate the shooter.

At a news conference, an Allegheny County police spokesperson said two groups of teenagers were near the “Music Express” ride in the “Lost Kennywood” section of the park when an altercation broke out around 10:49 p.m.

A gun was reportedly produced by a black man who was wearing a black hoodie and black face mask, similar to those worn during the coronavirus pandemic.

The incident was called a “mass casualty incident”.

Several police departments rushed to the scene according to Channel 11 reporter Susan Koepper, who had gone to the park to pick up her son.

Koepper said she was in the parking lot with “a lot of [other] families expecting their children.

“Witnesses said they ran, some jumped fences to escape and left their belongings,” she said.

According to Koepper’s son, he saw a stretcher rush into an area near Phantom’s Revenge ride.

The three people injured were two 15-year-old boys and a 35-year-old man.

One of the 15 year old boys was shot in the leg, a 35 year old man was also shot in the leg and the other 15 year old boy was grazed in the leg by the bullet.

The first 15-year-old is believed to be in stable condition, the 35-year-old has since been released after receiving treatment and the third victim is in stable condition after being taken to hospital by a member of his family, reports WPXI.

Others at the amusement park are believed to have suffered minor injuries as people fled the scene in a panic, but the total number has yet to be determined.

This morning, September 25, Kennywood Park released a statement that read: “The park is closed for the night and all guests are out. We are aware of a situation that occurred tonight and are working with law enforcement. local order.

“The safety of our guests and crew members is our top priority. Members of the park, Allegheny County and West Mifflin security departments were already on site and responded immediately.”

Alleghency County Police and West Mifflin Police are now in charge of the investigation.

The handgun has since been recovered from the scene. However, the suspect managed to escape.

Police have since appealed to the public for help in locating the shooter, asking anyone with information or pictures to call them at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
