Texas’ Hottest Racetrack Unveils New Amusement Park Rides

Austin’s COTAland amusement park is gearing up to take visitors on a thrill ride — or two thrill rides, to be exact.

Circuit of the Americas announced Nov. 16 that COTAland, slated to officially debut in 2022, will host two thrill rides: the SkyBlazer and the Palindrome. COTAland representatives say this is the only place people will be able to enjoy these two rides next year.

COTA has long been known for its racetrack, which hosts the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix and other racing events, but also offers a variety of entertainment offerings, including its go-kart track, zip line and vacation and music experiences. With the addition of COTAland, the property aims to take entertainment to the next level.

“COTA is working with the best creators and producers in the attractions industry to make COTAland a must-visit destination for theme parks,” said Matt Hughey, COTAland Senior Director, in a press release. “COTAland will offer everything from rides for young children to mind-blowing experiences that will delight even the most seasoned theme park goer. Something for everyone!”

The SkyBlazer seats 18 riders side-by-side on a circular platform before lifting them off the ground and then sending them hundreds of feet into the air.

“After a few moments of anticipation, the launch cord releases and sends patrons into a momentary free fall before the swinging motion catches them and sends them soaring above the enthralled onlookers,” the press release reads. .

The Palindrome roller coaster will feature a 95-foot vertical lift hill, a top speed of 51 mph, two reversals, and a vertical “hop-stall” before riders experience the ride again – in reverse.

Today, the park offers “kiddie” rides, including a Ferris wheel and carousel, but the SkyBlazer and Palindrome will elevate at least part of the experience to the adult category. Other rides planned for COTAland include the Skyflyer, Wacky Worm and Texas Wildcat.
