Sunday Cartoon: Bus Stop Children’s School Playground Safety

BURRILLVILLE – Bus Stop The safety of the children’s school play areas is very important at this time of year. School has started and with it the children go out for recess and the play areas of the daycare center on sunny days.

Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the 4-Safety organization asked me to create a series of coloring cartoons about playground safety as part of my “Seasons Of Safety” coloring campaign for little kids. with a coordinated statewide distribution plan. Neighboring communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut also received these playground safety coloring cartoons presented as coloring posters and coloring pages distributed to children and adults at events and fairs on security which also included the Warwick Mall during school holidays and spring break.

A problem that occurs quite often in small children is wearing clothes with drawstrings or ties. With summer ending and cooler temperatures on the way, kids will be wearing lightweight sweatshirts and most have hoods with drawstrings threaded through a hole at the back of the neck in the fabric . These sweatshirt cords can get tangled in swings and become a choking or bodily injury hazard. Some manufacturers of thick hooded sweatshirts and shirts produce these garments with velcro instead of pull cords for child safety. If by any chance your children are still wearing clothes with drawstrings, an adult may choose to simply cut them off and remove them to avoid unintentional injury and choking hazards while children are playing and swinging in elementary school, at daycare and in public playgrounds.

A change of season is upon us and the weekly content featured here will reflect child safety concerns and new seasonal risks approaching over the coming months directly related to the safety of children and their activities indoors and outside.
