Rockville Center opens playground in honor of late recreation center manager

This long-awaited playground is finally about to materialize.

Several elected officials from the Village of Rockville Center gathered on August 17 to open Mr. B’s Inclusive Playground at the Rockville Center Recreation Center.

Plans for this project began in 2015 and it is the very first all-inclusive playground in Rockville Center.

It also pays tribute to the late Anthony Brunetta, also known as ‘MB’ — who served for a long time as Superintendent of the Village Leisure Centre.

Brunetta was a lifelong resident of Rockville Center and led the center for 35 years.

One of his other notable local accomplishments was the establishment of the first-ever RVC softball league.

The state-of-the-art playground will provide children of all abilities the experience of playing, while encouraging acceptance and promoting health and well-being at the recreation center.

Upgrades include new ADA-compliant restrooms, LED lighting, walking track, exercise stations, tennis court and basketball court.

Grants from the New York State Dormitory Authority and donations from community groups such as the Rockville Center Lions Club, Tommy Brull Foundation Inc., Rockville Center Little League and many others have been credited with helping to make the project.
