SIDNEY, Neb. — After seven years of fundraising, a new playground is complete at the Cheyenne County Community Center.

The new play area of ​​the Kids Korner Daycare at the Community Center opened on Monday June 13th. The daycare celebrated the new playground on Friday, June 17.

Kids Korner children and their parents were able to celebrate the new playground with hot dogs, drinks and snow cones.

Kids Korner Daycare director Tiffany Jones said the kids love the new playground.

“It’s awesome,” Jones said. “A lot of work, money, tears and sweat went into it, so we’re really happy and satisfied with how it turned out.”

Jones said the new playground is better for children’s development.

“The playground was all rocks and outdated when it was built, it needed to be updated for safety reasons,” Jones said. “Playgrounds are essential for the development of young children, and we need to make sure they play outside, hang, climb, jump and have their needs met.”

Community center director Michael Namuth said fundraising began in 2015.

“It was Tiffany’s dream to update our playground and she started fundraising on her own,” Namuth said. dream come true. »

Namuth said the total cost of the playground was just under $160,000.

“That’s it; the concrete work, the rubber tiles, the equipment, and then its installation,” Namuth said.

Duane and Hester Smith donated a total of $63,000 for the new playground that will be built through their estates to the CCCC Foundation.

A park bench was added to the playground in memory of the Smiths. Duane and Hester’s daughter, Lynn Namuth, was at the celebration to appreciate the new bench in their honor.

“We want to thank everyone today for all of their donations with the fundraiser, the memorial money, the community center board and everyone here at Kids Korner as well,” Jones said. “Together we have made a difference.”

The daycare is open from Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
