Groundbreaking takes place for the K Woods Foundation Basketball Court and Playground at Park Hill

Young boys and girls and their parents were smiling on Wednesday night as diggers dug a new basketball court and playground at the Park Hill Houses in Clifton.

The new pitch and playground, part of the first phase of construction, will be funded by the K Woods Foundation, led by Kareem “Kay” Woods, a Staten Island native and music entrepreneur.

It’s part of Woods’ dream to bring a community together to build a whole new space for the children who live in the Park Hill Houses.

“I’m so proud to see the youth in my neighborhood finally getting what they deserve,” said Woods, CEO and Founder of the foundation. “A pleasant, clean and safe space to play and enjoy their childhood. I’m so lucky to have grown up here and to be able to come home and open new opportunities for learning and growth for so many children who don’t have the opportunities I have had.

The first phase of construction for the future K Woods Foundation Community Center includes major physical improvements to infrastructure, starting with the rooftop basketball court and new playground.

The development of the K Woods Foundation Community Center is made possible through grassroots organizing and crowdfunding and with the support of Del Shah Capital.

The new basketball court and playground will feature modern equipment designed to be developmentally appropriate for all ages and abilities. The new fitness facilities and new outdoor recreation facilities hope to equalize access to wellness necessities and improve residents’ daily quality of life by working to change habits and create new positive social role models throughout the complex. .

Phase two will focus on the interior of the 13,000 square foot community center which will serve as the base of operations for the organization’s work as well as a second home for the Park Hill community. Additionally, it will include a state-of-the-art facility with all the resources and educational tools needed to support youth development and training opportunities.
