Canyon inaugurates a new accessible playground | KAMR

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The City of Canyon announced Thursday that the Kylie Hiner Memorial Park Committee recently surpassed its fundraising goal for the park, giving the committee the opportunity to plan for the park’s grand opening.

According to a press release from the City of Canyon, the grand opening of the park will take place at 11 a.m. on October 20 in Conner Park. This new park will be a fully accessible playground in Canyon, featuring accessible amenities like a zipline and climbing net. The site will also include panels exploring tactile and musical experiences.

The committee raised $1.3 million for the project, exceeding its original goal of $1.1 million. According to the release, the donations were collected and coordinated by the AMBUCS Amarillo, Texas Southwest Regional Chapter of National AMBUCS, Inc.

“Kylie Hiner Park will help children in all 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle,” Vance Hall, chairman of the Southwest AMBUCS Playgrounds Committee, said in the release. “It will lighten the park that is in Amarillo and bring children to this part of the region. Siblings who have siblings with special needs will be able to play together on this playground.”
